See your copy's reading level, sentence length and clarity issues
Paste in a draft and get a reading level, a sentence length breakdown, and flags for passive voice and jargon, alongside an overall clarity verdict and the specific sentences that need work. The checker works from patterns in the text, so treat its verdict as a prompt to look again.
Readability and Clarity Checker: find the sentences losing your reader
The Readability and Clarity Checker scores your copy the way a reader actually meets it, sentence by sentence, flagging reading level, sentence length, passive voice and jargon. It's built for people writing product pages, emails and ads, so the guidance underneath it is aimed at commercial copy in UK English. Paste a draft in and you'll see exactly which sentences are losing the reader.
-
What the checker measures
It scores your pasted text for reading level, average sentence length, passive voice and jargon, then gives an overall clarity verdict with the problem sentences highlighted.
-
How to use the checker
Paste your draft into the box, read the clarity verdict it returns, and work through the sentences it has flagged one by one.
-
Interpret and act on the results
Rewrite the flagged sentences, run the text through the checker again, and treat a clean verdict as a reason to move on rather than a guarantee.
How to use the checker
The checker works as a loop: paste, read, fix, test again. The loop is where the value sits.
Paste your draft
Copy the text as it stands, whether that is a full product page or one paragraph you're unsure about, and paste it into the box above. The checker reads what is actually there, so paste the finished sentence.
Read the verdict
You'll get a reading level, an average sentence length, a passive voice count, a jargon count, and an overall clarity verdict, with the sentences causing trouble underlined in the text itself. A reading level score such as Flesch-Kincaid tells you how much effort the sentence structure asks of a reader; it does not tell you whether the sentence is true, persuasive, or right for the person you're writing to.
Fix the flagged sentences
Work through the underlined sentences one at a time. A sentence flagged for passive voice usually has a missing actor, so "the order will be processed" gets clearer once you name who processes it. A sentence flagged for length often has two ideas sitting in it; split it where the second idea starts, or join the two with an ordinary word like "because" or "so".
Test again
Run the edited version back through before you decide it's finished. Removing one passive sentence sometimes lengthens another close to it, and testing again is how you catch that.
Treat the verdict as a reading. The checker counts patterns in a sentence; it cannot tell whether a particular word is jargon to your reader or plain English to them, so use its flags as a prompt to look again at that sentence.
Run your draft through the checker before you publish
The checker reads your draft the way a reader will, flagging long sentences, passive constructions and jargon before they slow anyone down. It's built for founders and marketers writing their own copy as much as for copywriters checking a client draft, and the reading-level score it gives is a starting point, not a verdict on whether the copy works. Pair it with the guide on writing for the web, or run your headline through the scorer before either goes live.

Jargon flagged
Your copy, with problem sentences marked
Marked sentences are passive, long (over 25 words), or contain flagged jargon. Passive voice detection is a simplified heuristic and may miss or over-flag some sentences.
