Paste your copy, see if it fits
Paste any piece of copy and get the word count and character count against the recommended and maximum lengths for Google Ads, Meta Ads, email subject lines, SMS, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, meta titles and descriptions. One paste, one table, no switching between formats to check each limit by hand.
Length and Character Counter: check your copy against every major format limit at once
Most ad platforms, search engines and messaging services cut copy off at a set number of characters, and the limit is rarely the same from one format to the next. This counter shows the word count and character count for whatever you paste, alongside whether it fits within the recommended and maximum lengths for the formats you're likely to be writing for. It's built for anyone who writes ad copy, subject lines or meta tags and needs to know, before publishing, whether the line will be cut off.

Paste your copy
Paste your copy into the counter and see the word count and character count appear immediately.
-
Check it against the format you're writing for
Scan the comparison table to see whether your text fits Google Ads, Meta Ads, email subject lines, SMS, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, or meta titles and descriptions.
-
Trim or extend as needed
Trim or extend the copy and re-check it, since a headline that fits a meta title will often overrun a Twitter/X post or an SMS.
How the length and character counter works
Paste your copy and read the count
Paste any piece of copy into the box above and the tool counts words and characters as you type, then checks that count against the limits for the major formats people write to: Google Ads headlines and descriptions, Meta Ads, email subject lines, SMS, LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), meta titles and meta descriptions. You do not need to decide which limit applies before you start writing; you write the copy first and the tool shows you where it sits against each one.
Why the limits differ
Each platform sets its own limit because each one displays copy differently. A search engine truncates a meta title at a fixed pixel width, while an SMS provider charges by the character and splits a message that runs long. A headline that fits comfortably within a Google Ads limit would be cut off as the opening line of a LinkedIn post, and a subject line that reads well on a desktop screen can wrap awkwardly on a phone. Seeing the recommended and maximum length for every format side by side tells you at a glance which version of your copy is ready to use and which still needs shortening.
Treat these limits as a working reference. Providers revise their own specifications from time to time, and the safest length for a subject line or a meta description can shift depending on the device or email client showing it, so the count here can be wrong for a particular case even when it was right last month. Where the length matters for a live campaign, check the platform's current specification before you publish.
What to do with the result
If your copy sits under the maximum, check whether it is near the recommended length or well under it: a headline with room to spare might carry one more concrete detail before it needs to. If it runs over, trim the least specific words first, the qualifiers and the filler. For the full set of recommended and maximum lengths across formats, see the copy length reference tables; to check how easily the same copy reads, run it through the readability and clarity checker.
Check Your Copy Against Every Format Limit at Once
Paste your copy and see the word count, character count and whether it fits within the limits for Google Ads, Meta Ads, email subject lines, SMS, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, and meta titles and descriptions, all in one table. It's built for anyone writing commercial copy without a specialist tool to hand, so you can spot an overlong headline before it gets cut off in someone's search results. The counter tells you the numbers; whether a tight fit is worth trimming a word for is a judgement it leaves to you.
